A wireless mesh is formed among multiple Wireless Access Points by utilizing auto-discovery and self-routing technology. These units also act as WLAN Access Points for user access. The Wireless Access Point 7220 is positioned at an inside or outside venue via a mounting kit, both providing access and transport to the network for the mobile user.

The Wireless Access Point 7220 provides IEEE 802.11 wireless, high-speed access for packet data services in both public and private environments. Wireless technology is utilized both for Mobile Node client (IEEE 802.11b/g) connection and for traffic backhaul to the fixed broadband access (wired) network (IEEE 802.11a).
The product includes two radio sub systems. One is the access radio for the Mobile Node interface (nomadic node), the other is the radio backhaul providing a communications link between other Wireless APs and/or the wired network. The wireless backhaul is based on directional antennas in a circular array.
The access link (AL) radio sub-system is based on IEEE 801.11b/g WLAN standards operating in the 2.4 GHz band. The transit link (TL) radio sub-system is based on the IEEE 802.11a standard operating in the bands at 5.740 - 5.840 and 5.4 GHz in release 2.0.
High impact fire retardant and ultra-violet stable plastic injection moulding is used for the entire enclosure of the Wireless AP 7220. Its assembly is weather proof, intended for both outdoor and indoor deployment. The 6-facet (hexagonal shape) implements a 6-beam 5 GHz (IEEE 802.11a) antenna sub-system for the radio frequency (RF) back-haul links with other Wireless AP nodes in a mesh configuration. This is called the Transit Link antenna sub-system (TL). The antennas include dual polarisation for diversity. A single 5 GHz radio is used to drive one of the 6-beam directional antenna sub-systems. Beam switching allows the 5 GHz radio to drive a particular beam which can either transmit or receive in a half duplex mode.
At the base of the unit, 2.4GHz antennas provide the IEEE 802.11b/g client communication interface.
